Two student organizations have teamed to sponsor an evening seminar that will feature discussions about the cultural challenges that occur when conducting business overseas.
"Discover Business Abroad" will be held on Thursday, November 30, from 6-8 p.m. in the Loosemore Auditorium of the DeVos Center, 401 W. Fulton St. in Grand Rapids. The sponsors are Grand Valley's International Club and Beta Alpha Psi, the national honor society for accounting professionals. Media coverage of the event is welcomed.
Zafar Bazarov, vice president of the International Club, said more than 200 students are expected. "Students will obtain first-hand knowledge about foreign cultures from international students and about business practices from the speakers," he said.
Speakers are Ben Rudolph, Grand Valley professor of marketing, who will discuss overseas business challenges at 6 p.m.; Jeff Grim, from Deloitte, will talk about Japan at 6:35 p.m.; and Paul Marineau, from Crowe Chizek, will discuss business in China at 7:15 p.m.
Food booths with international cuisine and informational booths, including one sponsored by the U.S. Department of Commerce, will also be available. Grand Valley's international students will help facilitate the seminar and offer information about their home countries.
Tickets for the event are free and available at the 20/20 Desk in the Kirkhof Center, Allendale Campus, and Student Services desk in the DeVos Center. For more information, contact Bazarov at (616) 516-2727.
