GVSU community remembers President Ford

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Grand Valley State University community mourns the loss of former President Gerald R. Ford.

"President Ford was a good friend of Grand Valley State University," said Thomas J. Haas, university president. "During his time in Washington, while in Congress and in the White House, President Ford supported this university and its mission. He will be missed by all of West Michigan."

Ford and his legacy remain important to Grand Valley. The university's Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies has close ties with the Ford Museum and the Ford Foundation. The two entities work closely together to bring compelling programs and speakers of national and international prominence to the region.

Gleaves Whitney, director of the Hauenstein Center, conducted extensive interviews with President Ford and has written about Ford's experiences in Washington. He is available for comment, (616) 460-7955.
