Event focuses on Media and the Middle East

Two journalists from U.S.-sponsored media outlets in the Middle East will visit Grand Valley to discuss the news media in that region.

The speakers will be Sohail Al-Shaer, producer and writer for Alhurra TV in Washington D.C. and William Samii, senior Iran analyst and regional analysis coordinator for Southwest Asia and the Middle East at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty

The lecture and discussion will be Tuesday, November 14 from 1-2:15 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center's Grand River Room on the Allendale Campus. Alhurra (Arabic for "The Free One") is a commercial-free Arabic language satellite television network for the Middle East devoted primarily to news and information. Alhurra is operated by non-profit Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc., which financed by the American people through the U.S Congress. Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty is a private, international communications service to Eastern and Southeastern Europe, Russia, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Southwestern Asia, funded by the U.S. Congress through the Broadcasting Board of Governors.
