Coverage OP: VAGTC looks at Mexico trade

Mexico is one of the top trading partners of the U.S., and the Van Andel Global Trade Center at Grand Valley State University is holding a conference on January 19 to educate professionals about that relationship.

The seminar will provide enterprises a wide range of information involving trade within and with Mexico with legal perspectives on a number of related topics  a must-attend for importers and exporters.

Topics covered include principal laws related to business, foreign trade general rules, customs regimes, taxes and duties, NAFTA and many other topics of interest to importers and exporters.

The presenter, Edmundo Elias-Fernandez, is a partner and licensed Mexico customs broker with the law firm Baker & McKenzie. Fernandez received his law degree from the Universidad Nacional Aut¿noma de M¿xico in 1989 and masters degree from the Universidad Panamericana in 1991, concentrating in corporate, international finance, foreign trade and labor law. He is the co-author of the NAFTA Handbook and the customs chapter of the Mexican Tax guide.

The program is Thursday, January 19, in Grand Valley's Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences, 301 Michigan NE, Grand Rapids. The cost is $175 for members and $300 for non-members. Registration is from 7:30-8 a.m., and the program lasts from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
