Capturing Calder

Artists of all ages and abilities are invited to create their own rendition of Alexander Calder's stabile, La Grande Vitesse, in downtown Grand Rapids, during a free event on Saturday, October 21.

Images created on the spot can be contributed to a Grand Valley State University student project, dubbed "Big Red Thing," which aims to document community responses to the sculpture. The event is organized by Civic Studio, an art course at Grand Valley. They are also mounting a community photo drive to collect images of the Calder sculpture.

To participate, artists should arrive at Calder Plaza with the artistic media of their choice on Saturday, October 21, between noon and 2 p.m. For more information call (616) 634-6837.
