WGVU program helps kids grow garden

For students enrolled in WGVU Green Growers program, a garden begins with a Web site.

The Green Growers project is an initiative created by WGVU and the Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth, a city program designed to provide services in at-risk neighborhoods. The partner organizations received a $6,000 grant from the National Center for Outreach to establish the program in conjunction with PBS Kids GO.

GRYC students have researched PBS Web sites to learn about healthy living and plant growth, and have built a garden at Camp O'Malley in Alto. In August, WGVU and GRYC will host a dinner for the Green Growers and their parents. The dinner highlight will -- naturally -- be fresh produce from the garden.
