Trailblazing female sports journalist visits Grand Valley

Award-winning journalist and USA Today columnist Christine Brennan will spend a full day on the Grand Valley State University campus speaking to student-athletes, journalism students, and coaches as well as addressing a general audience in the evening. Her visit is presented by Grand Valley's National Women in Sports Program.

Brennan's column in USA Today makes her one of the most widely-read female sports columnist in the nation. She is the author of the best-selling figure skating books Inside Edge and Edge of Glory. Brennan has won the Women's Sports Foundation's journalism award four times. She is an on-air commentator for ABC News and ESPN and has appeared on a variety of network and cable shows, including ESPN's SportsCenter, Nightline, and the Today Show.

Brennan broke the story of the pairs figure skating scandal at the 2002 Olympics. Her column in 2002 on Augusta National Golf Club focused debate on the club's policy barring women members. She was the first woman to cover the Washington Redskins in 1985 as a staff writer at the Washington Post. In 1995, the Toledo native was inducted into the Ohio Women's Hall of Fame.

She will bring all her talent and experience to Grand Valley's Allendale campus on February 9. Her keynote address will be at 7 p.m. in the Pere Marquette Room of the Kirkhof Center. The public is invited to attend.
