The first lecture, from 1-2 p.m., will address the concepts of wisdom and compassion according to Tibetan Buddhism. Wisdom in this context does not refer to mere intellectual understanding but to insight into the true nature of reality. Wisdom is one of the six perfections on the Bodhisattva path. Compassion is the sympathy for the suffering of all sentient beings and the desire to free them from all forms of suffering.
The second lecture, from 3:30-5 p.m., will introduce students to the law of cause and effect, known as karma. An understanding of these principles helps Buddhists take responsibility for experiences, both pleasant and unpleasant.
Both lectures will be in the Pere Marquette Room of the Kirkhof Center on the Allendale Campus. The talks are free and open to the public.
