"State of the State" on education

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Mike Flanagan, state superintendent of Public Instruction, will speak at Grand Valley State University. Flanagan will give a "State of the State" address on education.

The presentation will take place Monday, October 3, from 6-7 p.m. at Loosemore Auditorium on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus, 401 W. Fulton. Media are welcome.

Flanagan was appointed state superintendent of public instruction by the State Board of Education in May 2005. He leads the Michigan Department of Education and helps direct the State Board of Education in advising the governor and the state Legislature regarding public education in Michigan.

Flanagan served as the executive director of the Michigan Association of School Administrators (MASA), which serves approximately 1,200 Michigan public school superintendents, first-line assistants and associate members; and the Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators (MAISA), which serves the 57 intermediate school districts in the state.
