Step inside an inflatable planetarium, learn about meteorites and moon phases, then peer through outdoor telescopes during Celebrate the Sky on National Astronomy Day, Saturday, April 16 at Grand Valley State University's Allendale Campus.
As part of the World Year of Physics at Grand Valley these and other free public events are made possible, in part, by funding from the Michigan Space Grant Consortium and Inside Einstein's Universe - Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.
Indoor introductory events, such as astronomy demonstrations, presentations and information booths, will take place in Loutit Lecture halls in Padnos Hall from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Outdoor sky viewing events will be held from 9-11 p.m. behind Lubbers Football Stadium.
Multiple telescopes will be provided for viewing with experienced astronomers. The public is also welcome to bring their own telescopes, binoculars, finder charts, blankets and chairs. Children must be accompanied by parents or other responsible adults.
The rain date is Saturday, April 23. Check for updates at www.gvsu.edu/cthesky. All events are sponsored by Grand Valley's Regional Math and Science Center, Physics Department, and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
