Ten student singers from Grand Valley were recognized, including: Jeff Baker first place in Music Theater, Ashley Kochanski honorable mention in Freshman Women, Sean Copenhaver second place in Freshman Men, Meagan Earls and Teresa Zapata third place in Sophomore Women, Jason Coffey first place in Sophomore Men, Douglas Blossom second place in Mature Beginners, Jacquelyn Davis 3rd place in Junior Women, Lucy Finkel first place in Senior Women and Abby Brookhouse third place in Senior Women. Congratulations to all.
Grand Valley singers also comprised half of the eight finalists of the Opera Grand Rapids Inaugural Collegiate Vocal Competition on April 3 at Trinity United Methodist Church. Opera Grand Rapids executive director John Peter Jeffries said the new competition offered a meaningful educational experience to students from five area colleges.
Most notable from Grand Valley, were soprano Lucy Finkel, who won the $300 first prize, and baritone Jason Coffey who collected the $200 second prize. Two other Grand Valley finalist were Jeff Baker in the college music theater category and Doug Blossom, a returning student, in the mature beginners category.
