A frozen sprinkler pipe burst last Monday, January 24, spraying water on the first floor of the Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences. A flow alarm inside the sprinkler system automatically alerts the fire department and requires the evacuation of the building.
The water flooded into the east lobby area, near the bus drop-off area, just before noon. People were evacuated for a short time, but classes resumed by early afternoon. James Moyer, assistant vice-president for Facilities Planning said quick reaction time helped minimize damage. "Due to the rapid response by the fire department and the university staff, the cost is expected to be minor," said Moyer.
