The people of Sudan have suffered under nearly 22 years of brutal civil war. More than 2.5 million people have died and another 5 million are displacd by the conflict. Since January 2003, another conflict in western Sudan has caused similar devastation.
Ryan Spencer Reed, a documentary photojournalist, has covered the displacement caused by the scorched-earth policies of the Sudanese government. He will show some of those images and lead a discussion on Thursday, February 3 at 7 p.m. in Loutit Lecture Hall room 102.
After graduating from Calvin College in May 2002, Reed sold his car to travel to Africa to document this humnaitarian crisis. He traveled through Sudan, Kenya and Chad, photographing the humanitarian tragedies he found along the way. His work was the subject of a 2004 exhibit at Calvin.
