Money dispersed from Grand Valley Fund

President Mark A. Murray announced an additional $300,000 in funding for special programs across campus, made possible by the Grand Valley Fund and its donors.

Gifts to the university not restricted for specific purposes go to the Grand Valley Fund. Last year, faculty and staff and other donors gave more than $260,000 in unrestricted gifts to the fund.

The new dispersals include the following:

  • $50,000 for scholarships for approximately 17 students in a newly established category for international student aid, "International Award of Distinction";
  • $100,000 to fund visiting resident scholars in business or art and design;
  • $60,000 to support approximately 10 more student/faculty research teams through the Student Summer Scholars program;
  • $50,000 to acquire a "Sim Baby" simulator in the Kirkhoff College of Nursing; and
  • $40,000 for new document delivery and interlibrary loan systems.

This funding is in addition to $85,000 dispersed earlier this year from the Grand Valley Fund, which included:

  • $25,000 for the textbook loan program for low-income first-generation students.
  • $30,000 in funding for scholarships to assist out-of-state students; and
  • $30,000 to bridge scholarship funding gaps to help students with exceptional needs.

"These dispersals demonstrate the growing role of the Grand Valley Fund in benefiting our students and even changing their lives," noted Wendy Wenner, co-chair of GVSUs Faculty and Staff Campaign. "We are extremely pleased to see unrestricted gifts at Grand Valley being put to such exciting and productive uses."
