Home owners get ready for higher heating costs

Winter in Michigan means snow, cold, travel, holidays and the flu. The following Grand Valley State University experts are available to comment on the many facets that accompany Old Man Winter.

  • Pat Schafer, 616-331-7166, associate dean of nursing in the Kirkhof College of Nursing
    Schafer can talk about flu season, the flu vaccine and tips on how to avoid contracting the flu.

  • Mary Jo Miedema, 616-988-8774, nurse practitioner with the GVSU Family Health Center
    Miedema can talk about the flu and ways to combat other ailments that are common during the winter season.

  • Paul Isely, 616-331-7418, associate professor of economics in the Seidman College of Business
    Isely can comment on the rising cost of oil and natural gas prices and how that will affect home heating costs this winter.

  • Imad Mahawili, 616-331-6905, executive director of the Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center (MAREC)
    MAREC is the first fully integrated demonstration facility for distributed generation of electricity using alternative and renewable energy technologies in the United States. Mahawili can discuss these technologies and how they are beneficial to the average consumer.
