Grand Valley gets two new board members

Gov. Jennifer Granholm chose two west Michigan women to fill eight-year terms on the Board of Trustees. Granholm appointed Kate Pew Wolters of Grand Rapids and Grand Valley alumna Noreen Myers of Lowell.

If the state Senate approves the appointments, Wolters and Myers will replace Karen Henry Stokes and John Kennedy whose terms expired.

Wolters is president of the Kate and Richard Wolters Foundation and was the first recipient of Grand Valleys Young Leadership Award. Myers graduated from Grand Valley in 1972 and is an attorney in private practice.

President Mark Murray said both women have significant ties to the community and to the university which will prove to be valuable. Noreen Myers' appointment exemplifies the fact that our graduates are taking more and more leadership roles in their communities. Kate Pew Wolters has been a long-time supporter of Grand Valley and the region. I am grateful to Governor Granholm for her appointments and I look forward to working with them in the years ahead."

If approved by the Senate, their terms will expire December 31, 2012.
