Children displaced by Hurricane Katrina attend local schools

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Local school officials and teachers are preparing to help school-age children, displaced by the hurricane, make a smooth transition into classrooms. The following Grand Valley education and child psychology experts are available for comment.

  • Linda McCrea, 616-331-2080, chair of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education
    Professor McCrea coordinates all of the student elementary teachers at Grand Valley and is available to comment on ways teachers can help students, displaced by the hurricane, acclimate into a new school.
  • Andrea Rotzein, 616-331-2195, assistant professor of psychology
    Professor Rotzein can comment on the trauma children and adults may feel after the hurricane, and what steps are necessary to ease stress.
