News from Grand Valley State University

Brrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Douglas Kindschi, professor and former dean of science, is in Antarctica. He is pictured here receiving his ECW (Extreme Cold Weather) clothing in New Zealand.

Kindschi is the chairman of the Raytheon Science Support Advisory Board which offers educational programs and internships for college students on the chilly continent. He is spending 10 days evaluating their current program and exploring other areas which might be developed to enhance the quality of life. He also brought along the Grand Valley flag to fly permanently in Antarctica.

Kindschi recently gave presentations about the Antarctica internships at the Public Museum of Grand Rapids where several Grand Valley and area college students showed interest in studying in Antarctica.
