Arts at Noon to feature bamboo musical instruments

A unique palette of more than 20 traditional Japanese woodwind and Asian percussion instruments will be featured during a concert by the Bamboo Orchestra. Each is made from bamboo, which has been used since antiquity to make instruments in many Asian regions.

Based in Japan, the orchestras compositions contain resonating sound and defining tones. It evokes a sense of harmony between nature and people, a characteristic found in Japenese culture. The ensemble strives to create music that transcends all ethnic identities, personalities, and multitudes of music knowledge and genres.

The orchestra will perform as part of the Arts at Noon series on Wednesday, March 2, in the Cook-DeWitt Center on the Allendale Campus. Admission is free.
