Anonymous tests offered during National Eating Disorder Screening Day

Grand Valley's Counseling and Career Development Center will offer free anonymous screenings for eating disorders on Thursday, February 24, which is National Eating Disorder Screening Day.

Nationally, 95 percent of people with eating disorders are between the ages of 12-25. The majority of those who have an eating disorder don't seek treatment, often as a result of shame or social stigma. The goal of this event is to educate, reduce the stigma attached to eating disorders, and to let students know that help is available.

On-campus screenings and information sessions will be held at both the Allendale and Pew campuses. The Counseling Center, STU 204, will run drop-in hours from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Counselors will also be available from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Center for Health Sciences Building, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center, and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the DeVos Center. Online screenings are available by visiting the Counseling Center Web site, www.gvsu.edu/counsel.
