Writer Amy Benson to speak

Grand Valley's Writers Series will present a prize-winning author who writes about what is to many Michiganders familiar territory: her summers spent in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Amy Benson will discuss her work at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 27, in the Van Solkema Recital Hall, PAC.

Benson's first book, "The Sparkling-Eyed Boy," is a memoir of her summers spent on her familys land in the U.P., where she first fell in love. Reviewers praised her writing as "lovely, fiercely intelligent prose," and the book was awarded the 2003 Bakeless Prize for Nonfiction. Benson's visit to GVSU is open to the public and free.
