Family Weekend 2004 is October 9-10, and organizers expect Lubbers Stadium to be packed for Saturday's game against Hillsdale.
More than 2,000 relatives are expected to attend the buffet dinner prior to the Lakers football game. Dinner will be served in the Fieldhouse arena and entertainment is also scheduled.
"Family Weekend gets bigger and better every year. This year's event is extra exciting because families will get the chance to see and enjoy the brand new additions to Lubbers Stadium," said LeaAnn Tibbe, special events coordinator in the Office of Student Life.
Football and dinner packages for Family Weekend can be purchased through the Office of Student Life. Limited football tickets can be purchased through Star Tickets Plus Inc.
Students and their families can enjoy the many activities going on around campus all weekend long. Novelties will be set up in Kirkhof Center during check-in from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., as well as Habitat for Humanity's Lost and Found Sale. A 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Registration for the 5K begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Kirkhof Center lobby. The Run/Walk allows family members to take a tour of Grand Valleys campus, including the new addition on the south end. Free t-shirts will be available for the first 100 participants. On Sunday families have the option of attending worship at the Interdenominational Service in the Grand River Room of Kirkhof. Brunch will be available at the Fresh Food Company from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Grand Valley Renaissance Festival coincides with Family Weekend. The festival is on Saturday and Sunday from 10a.m.to 7p.m. at the Cook Carillon Plaza. Discounted tickets for the Shakespeare Festival's mainstage production of Measure for Measure are also available through the Office of Student Life.
