Maia Quartet celebrated for its innovation

The Maia Quartet, a string quartet praised by critics for its sparkling musical intelligence and innovation, will perform at Grand Valley at 8 p.m. on Friday, February 20 in the Van Solkema Recital Hall, PAC.

The string quartet of the University of Iowa School of Music, the Maia Quartet has appeared in major concert halls throughout the United States, including a 1999 concert at the German Embassy in Washington on the eve of the NATO summit, in honor of the Czech Republic's entry into NATO.

Collaborations with leading chamber musicians have included performances with violist Michael Tree of the Guarneri Quartet, violinist Peter Zazofsky of the Muir Quartet, renowned concert pianist Ann Schein, and the late flutist Samuel Baron.

Friday's concert is open to the public free of charge.
