GVSU's Autumn Health Forums begin

For the third year running, Grand Valley State University's Autumn Health Forums will tackle some of today's biggest health care issues. Shoshanna Sofaer kicks off the 2004 series on Sept. 30 with a talk titled "Building Effective Coalitions to Activate the Healthy Community."

Sofaer is the Robert P. Luciano Professor of Health Care Policy in the School of Public Affairs at Baruch College. She previously held academic positions at the George Washington University Medical Center and the UCLA School of Public Health. Sofaer's research interests include health care quality measurement and improvement; developing tools to help health care consumers choose and use health care wisely; and developing and assessing broad based coalitions to pursue community health. For the last several years, she has been a member of the Institute of Medicines Committee on the Consequences of Uninsurance.

The Autumn Health Forums are a series of discussions that focus attention on health care topics of interest to both the general public and health care professionals. The forums are intended to provide an informative, interesting and sometimes provocative way to explore some of the leading health care issues of the day. An informative question-and-answer session follows each session.

Sofaer's forum is from September 30 noon to 1 p.m. in the DeVos Center's Loosemore Auditorium on Grand Valley's Pew Grand Rapids Campus. It is free and open to the public.
