Faculty and students will soon get more breathing room

The Grand Valley State University Board of Trustees, at their February 13 meeting, approved two construction projects for the Allendale campus. One calls for an addition to the Calder Art Center, the other will allow for a new building for faculty offices, student study spaces and specialized classroom spaces.

'The faculty office situation will only get worse,' said James Moyer, director of facilities planning. 'We anticipate hiring more faculty in the fall. Its important for students and faculty to have enough room when they meet together,' he said.

The new 50,000 square foot academic office building will be located on the south portion of the campus near either Lake Michigan Hall or AuSable Hall. The estimated project budget is $12,000,000.

The 7,000-square-foot addition to the Calder Art Center will contain painting studios, faculty offices and study spaces. The addition will be located on the northeast corner of the existing Center. The estimated project budget is $2,000,000.
