A rare and beautiful sight
Assistant professor of geology Steve Mattox snapped this photo at 6:15
a.m. Tuesday morning on June 8. He and his daughter, along with a group
of Grand Valley students, came to the Allendale campus at sunrise to
watch the rare transit of Venus across the sun. Conditions were ideal.
The group looked through Mattoxs Celestron 8 telescope. This is
only the sixth time this phenomenon has occurred. The last time was in
1882; the next time will be in 2012.
