Students gathered recently to watch the award-winning documentary,
'Hidden Wars of Desert Storm,' and to voice their views about an
impending war with Iraq. Grand Valley professors were on hand to answer
students' questions and offer perspectives on the issue. Speaking above
is philosophy professor Coeli Fitzpatrick, a specialist in the history,
culture, and current issues of the Middle East. Also answering questions
were Jim Goode, coordinator of Middle East Studies, and English
professor David Alvarez.
'Hidden Wars of Desert Storm,' produced in 2001, documents a two-year
investigation into the Gulf War, analyzing all aspects of Saddam
Hussein's 1990 invasion of Kuwait and the U.S.'s ensuing military
actions against Iraq. The film features interviews of key officials in
the conflict as well as media coverage, the public's perceptions, and
the war's aftermath.
Students were also apprised of several related marches and activities
planned in the area. For more information call David Alvarez at 331-3581.
