The Grand Valley State University Student Senate recognized state Sen.
Mike Goschka, R-Brant, for his support of Grand Valley during the
statewide budget process.
Goschka was recognized during a Student Senate meeting on October 9.
The student senators passed resolution of thanks and presented Goschka
with a copy.
Goschka is the chair of the Senate Higher Education appropriations
subcommittee, and he worked with special diligence this year to address
the special problems facing the state's universities. He was
instrumental in the adoption of a funding plan that enabled Grand Valley
to reduce by more than half the tuition rate hike previously adopted by
its Board of Trustees.
'It is an honor for the GVSU Student Senate to host a dinner in honor
of Sen. Mike Goschka's dedication, and commitment, to higher education,'
said Rachael Voorhees, president of the Student Senate.
'College students truly care about our education and it is comforting
to know that we have legislators like Mike Goschka, who are willing to
help us realize our dreams,' Voorhees added. 'The Student Senate feels
it is important that legislators advocating for higher education are
rewarded by those directly benefiting ¿ the students. Sen. Goschka's
leadership in the statewide budgeting process was unparalleled, and for
his devotion to higher education, we thank him.'
Following the event, the student senators had a celebratory dinner with
Goschka.
