Former State Senator Leon Stille (R-Grand Haven) has donated $10,000 in
surplus campaign funds to the Grand Valley University Foundation.
Announcement of the gift was made today by Stille and Grand Valley
President Mark Murray.
'Grand Valley is an institution that I've been proud to both represent
and support,' Stille said. 'I know the Foundation will make good use of
the gift.'
The Michigan Campaign Finance Act permits departing lawmakers to donate
to charity any funds remaining in campaign committee accounts.
'I am very pleased that Leon has chosen Grand Valley to receive this
special gift,' President Murray said. 'His decision to help Grand
Valley is a generous one, and is the first time the university
foundation has received a donation of this kind.'
Stille served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1992-94 and
in the State Senate from 1994-2002. His second and final Senate term
ended Wednesday. In the House, Stille represented the university's
Allendale campus; in the Senate, his district included Allendale and the
university's facilities in Muskegon County.
