ALLENDALE, Mich. ¿ Saginaw Valley State University has challenged the
spirit-driven Grand Valley to a 'Battle of the Valleys.' Grand Valley
Student Senate President Rachael Voorhees promises 'a righteous and just
response' to the challenge.
Beginning October 12 and ending Thursday, October 16, at midnight, GVSU
and SVSU will be raising money for their local Big Brothers/Big Sisters
programs. Grand Valley's defending champion Laker football team meets
the Saginaw Valley Cardinals on October 18 at Lubbers Stadium in Allendale.
'No one challenges the best school in the state ¿ no one! I can not
wait to show Saginaw Valley what Lakers, and our Laker community, are
made of,' Voorhees said. 'I hope members of our community help raise
money for Big Brothers/Big Sisters and support this rivalry!'
According to terms of the student-led battle, collections end on
Thursday at midnight. Donations may be dropped off at Student Senate
offices in the Kirkhof Center and DeVos Center or in canisters near
dining areas. There are also collection points in Grand Rapids and
Holland. Student Senate leaders can also collect money, call (616)
331-2333 for more information. The winning school will receive a trophy
designed by a Grand Valley student.
'May the best Valley ¿ the Grand Valley ¿ prevail,' Voorhees said.
Questions can be directed to Voorhees at (616) 331-2333 or via e-mail at [email protected].
