Golf Event to benefit Women's Center

Heads up, golfers. Grand Valley's Women's Center is offering an opportunity to spend a day on the green while contributing to the educational pursuits of members of the community.

Registrations are now being taken for the first annual GVSU Women's Center Golf Tournament, held August 12 at The Meadows on Grand Valley's Allendale Campus. Tee off for the scramble tournament is at 1:30 p.m. Registration is $85 per person.

Jennifer Moss, anchor at WOOD-TV 8, will serve as mistress of ceremonies for the event, which includes 18 holes of golf in the afternoon, and dinner and a silent auction beginning at about 6:15 p.m. Golfers each receive a gift bag and a chance to win the hole-in-one prize: a year's lease on a car from Grand Oldsmobile.

Arrangements are available for non-golfers wishing to attend the dinner and silent auction only.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the GVSU Women's Scholarship, which grants scholarships to women attending college for the first time or returning to college. Dollars raised will also be used for such Women's Center programs as the mentoring program, which teams women students with mentors, its peer sexual assault education program, which coordinates presentations on the topic for classrooms and organizations, and to feature notable guests and events at GVSU.

The tournament welcomes all golfers, regardless of gender or skill level. To register or for more information, contact the GVSU Women's Center at (616) 331-2748.
