Discussing Alcohol Prevention

Grand Valley theater students were on hand to help parents talk to their kids about drugs and alcohol by presenting a series of skits and role-plays during a program at East Grand Rapids High School on April 16.

?How to Talk to Your Kids? was held in the high school?s Little Auditorium.

Wednesday?s program is the second community forum sponsored by ?Positive Influences,? a partnership by GVSU?s Alcohol Education, Research, and Training Labs, WGVU Public Broadcasting, Alano Club of Kent County, and Attitudes Matter of Ottawa County. Past forums were held at Allendale and Spring Lake high schools. Positive Influences obtained a grant to produce forums, radio and TV programs focused on helping parents discuss substance abuse with their kids.

?How to Talk to Your Kids? was audiotaped for broadcast on WGVU Radio, 88.5 FM, from 10-11 a.m. on April 24.

Also, the theater students, under direction of professor Karen Libman, will act in a studio performance of the program at WGVU?s studios in the Eberhard Center, 301 W. Fulton St., on April 17, beginning at 7:15 p.m. The public is also invited to this taping. This program will air on WGVU-TV at 9 p.m. on April 22.
