Thousands Caught In Grand Valley Football Web Cast

Grand Valley Lakers fans around the world will have another chance to watch their football team in the NCAA Division II playoffs. Following intense interest in last week's game, this Saturday's contest between Grand Valley and Indiana University of Pennsylvania also will be available live on the internet.

More than 10,000 people watched some portion of last week's first ever free, live Web cast of a Division II playoff game. They saw the undefeated Grand Valley Lakers beat the C.W. Post Pioneers. The live audio and video Web cast of the playoff games are being produced by AMPM sports, a division of MLB Advanced Media, LP, the new media and Internet company of Major League Baseball.

Alumni nowhere near Allendale, Michigan say watching the game on the Internet makes them feel part of the Lakers drive for the championship. Arthy Nena, a 1983 graduate of Grand Valley, watched from Micronesia. 'Absolutely amazing! I had to wake up at 3:00 a.m. Sunday morning to watch the game. I watched from start to finish!'

David Fishbein, Grand Valley class of 1982, is living in Israel. 'Let me express my thanks that you are reaching out, over time and space to alumni like me who are so very far away. It is nice to know the ties have not been severed.'

Grand Valley's Director of Athletics Tim Selgo said, 'It was great to have fans around the country and the world watch Laker football. We're excited about them watching again this weekend.'

The Grand Valley Lakers, the number one seed in the Northeast Region, take on the IUP Indians, the number six seed, this Saturday, November 30, at 1 p.m. You can access the Web cast at www.gvsu.edu and at www.ampmsports.com .
