News from Grand Valley State University

On the Team

Three new communications specialists have joined the University Communications team in a move to better serve the GVSU community. The new staffers will work within a beat system that allows them each to focus on a group of university departments and units.

This is a move to keep up with the university's growth and stay on top of the great stories that unfold everyday, said Stephen Ward, director of University Communications. Our new writers will generate content for news releases, GVNow, and the rest of our publications. Plus, they'll be liaisons with the university community to help us meet the various external and internal communications needs that arise.

The Office of University Communications produces GVSU's official publications and Web content, handles media relations, marketing and advertising, periodicals such as Forum, and assists in special events.

The new communications specialists are Brian J. Bowe, Michele Johnson and Nancy Willey. Bowe comes to GVSU from the Holland Sentinel, where he covered government and was the recipient of the 1999 publisher's award for Reporter of the Year. He previously worked at the Nashua Telegraph. Bowe received his bachelor's degree from GVSU.

Johnson has worked in journalism for eight years, most recently as the news editor of the Cadillac News. She received her bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and master's degree from Delta State University in Mississippi.

Willey, an alumna of GVSU, has worked in public relations and journalism for the past two decades. Her most recent positions were feature writer for the Holland Sentinel and editor of a regional tourist publication.
