News from Grand Valley State University

Leg Room

Construction will begin this August on a 10,780 square-foot addition to the Performing Arts Center for a music/dance studio. The Board of Control recently approved the project.

This follows the recent announcement that the university will begin building Dance as an academic major.

As GVNow recently reported, Jefferson Baum, a Grand Haven native, has been hired to lead the GVSU Dance program.

Music Department Chairman Sherman Van Solkema, who will also oversee Dance, says the Dance developments are a continuation of the transformation in the arts at GVSU that's been underway over the last three years.

He cites the Art Center complex and the PAC renovations that have already taken place, plus the program developments within Music, such as music technology and GVSU's emphasis on 21st Century Music.
