Helen Thomas, dean of the White House press corps who has covered every president since John F. Kennedy, has announced that she'll retire from United Press International.
Her decision is apparently linked to UPI's sale this week to News World Communications, Inc., owner of the Washington Times newspaper and linked to the Unification Church.
Thomas, also a veteran of the speaking circuit, made one of her final appearances in her role as senior White House correspondent at GVSU. Her address on March 30 was filled with fascinating accounts from an insider's prespective of Washington.
GVSU also conferred an honorary doctorate on Thomas, a Michigan native.
