GVSU Partners for Law Degree

GVSU next week will start a partnership with Michigan State University-Detroit College of Law to provide GVSU students with law education programming, and move a step closer to West Michigan's first law degree program.

Under the agreement, GVSU students pursuing master's degrees in either business administration or taxation will have a chance to simultaneously earn a juris doctorate from MSU-DCL, beginning next fall. Undergraduates majoring in business are eligible for a law degree through a similar arrangement.

As the program begins, students would still need to take their law courses in East Lansing. But Seidman School of Business Dean David Mielke told the Grand Rapids Press that the new program will be a step in the right direction.

Both GVSU and MSU-DCL realized this is something we both can do to build our programs. These are the first two steps in what I hope will be an increasing interaction with MSU-DCL, Mielke said.

The GVSU partnership with MSU-DCL will be signed at the DeVos Center, on the Grand Rapids Campus, next Wednesday, October 11.
