Great Communicator

President Arend D. Lubbers has been named Communicator of the Year by the West Michigan Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. He was nominated by Communications Professor and PRSA member Fred Chapman.

Lubbers, Grand Valley's president since 1969, has guided the institution from its days as a small, liberal arts college to a full-service, regional university with more than 75 undergraduate and graduate program, three campuses, and two regional centers.

Chapman's nomination states that the president typifies a polished professional executive who has used multi-faceted approaches of communication.

Lubbers is cited for the long-term friendships he's established with community leaders, various committees of the Michigan House and Senate, and educational experts to get the academic, financial and community support to make GVSU what it is today.

The university is to receive several additional communication awards from WMPRSA. Read more about that on Friday.
