Education's Future Probed

A panel of area public school administrators will discuss the future challenges for public education on Thursday, April 13, from 1-2 p.m., at Grand Valley State University, in the Cook-DeWitt Auditorium. The event is open to the public and free of charge.

The event is being sponsored by GVSU's Pew Faculty Teaching and Learning Center, the University Club, and the Office of the Assistant to the President for Campus Equity and Planning.

We at GVSU have a considerable investment in the preparation of public school teachers, says Catherine Frerichs, director of GVSU's Pew Faculty Teaching and Learning Center. We rarely have the opportunity to listen to a group of public school leaders on the future of public schools. This panel promises straight talk on difficult issues.

Panelists include Patricia Newby, superintendent of Grand Rapids Public Schools, Marcia Bishop, superintendent of Holland Public Schools, Michael Washburn, superintendent of Forest Hills Public Schools, and Pat Sandro, Grand Valley's special assistant to the president for charter schools. Patricia Oldt, former superintendent of Northview Public Schools and GVSU's assistant to the president for campus equity and planning, will moderate the discussion.
