David Friesen, considered by Jazz Times as 'one of the two or three bassists in the world able to play a solo concert and keep an audience riveted' will perform a free public concert at Grand Valley State University on September 30.
Friesen will perform with equally talented guitarist Uwe Kropinski, of Germany. Friesen, of Portland, Oregon, has written two musical scores for animated short films, both of which were nominated for the Academy Award. Friesen was nominated in 1997 as Best Jazz Bassist at the American Jazz Awards. Kropinski, also a composer, has earned international acclaim for his recording projects. Since 1989 he has earned a reputation for playing guitars with 39 frets.
The duo is currently on a 'Music Clinic Tour' sponsored by Thomastik-Infeld, a company that provides hand-made stringed instruments for many of the worlds best jazz musicians. They will offer a free public clinic at noon this Thursday, September 30 in Room 1515 in the Performing Arts Center on GVSUs Allendale campus. The duo will give a free concert that evening at 8 oclock in the Recital Hall in the Performing Arts Center. Interested in more information about the clinic or the concert?
