Governor Taps Fridsma

Governor John Engler has announced the appointment of GVSU Financial Aid Director Ken Fridsma to the Commission on Financing Postsecondary Education.

Engler created the commission in September to work to ensure a variety of flexible financing options to those seeking postsecondary education in the state. Lt. Governor Dick Posthumus is serving as chair.

The commission is made up of experienced leaders who have a great interest in furthering postsecondary education in Michigan, the Governor said. With the Lt. Governor, they form an outstanding commission that will make great strides for students in this state.

Fridsma has been director of financial aid for Grand since 1968. He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics and chemistry from Calvin College in 1961 and a master's degree in guidance and counseling from Michigan State University in 1963.

He's joined on the commission by James Anderton, president of Lansing Community College, Richard Gabrys, vice chairman of Deloitte & Touche LLP and chair of the Michigan Education Trust Board of Directors, and Keith Pretty, president of Walsh College of Accountancy and Business Administration.
