The GVSU Board of Control has authorized the purchase of two properties in downtown Grand Rapids that will be the site of a proposed health professions building and provide parking adjacent to Secchia Hall.
The board authorized the purchase of a 1.4-acre parcel on the northeast corner of Michigan and Lafayette from Spectrum Health for $2.5 million. The site will be home to a new health professions building for GVSU's nursing, physician's assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy and other health professions programs.
Grand Valley's nurse practitioner and physician's assistant programs moved downtown this past fall and meet in classrooms at the Cook Institute, across the street from the site of the proposed health professions building. Earlier this fall, GVSU joined in a collaboration with Michigan State University, Spectrum Health, and St. Mary's Hospital to offer medical education and research in downtown Grand Rapids.
The board also authorized the purchase of 4.6 acres from Owens-Ames-Kimball Construction Company for $2.1 million. The two parcels of property, adjacent to Secchia Hall, would be used for parking when the downtown campus expansion is complete.
