This GVSU Marketing and Branding Student Advisory Council (MBSAC) provides valuable perspective on GVSU’s marketing, advertising, and brand work by reviewing materials through the lens of current students. By drawing members from varied experiences and identities, the group helps us create authentic, inclusive, and effective communications.

Participation in the GVSU Marketing and Branding Student Advisory Council offers students the opportunity to directly influence how GVSU represents itself to future Lakers. Members gain meaningful leadership experience, learn how large-scale marketing and communication decisions are made, and build skills that translate well to any career path.

Participant Expectations
Members of the GVSU Marketing and Branding Student Advisory Council are asked to participate in one in-person meeting each semester and to share their perspectives through brief email surveys throughout the year.
Students may also be in invited to:
- Review new marketing materials, campaigns, photography, or videos and share thoughtful feedback.
- Assist in recruiting student participants for photo/video projects and gather peer insights for the council.
- Provide input on social media content aimed at prospective students.
- Offer feedback on the “Turning What If Into What Is” campaign, including selecting student representatives and reviewing visual concepts.
- Identify student groups or organizations that may be underrepresented in current marketing efforts.
- Participate in or be featured in social media posts, campaigns, or takeovers to authentically represent GVSU.
- Participate in other activities or initiatives identified by the council as important to supporting its work and advancing this initiative.

Participation is flexible and designed to fit within a busy student schedule while still ensuring their insights meaningfully shape GVSU’s communications.

Leadership Opportunities
MBSAC has a student leadership team in addition to our two advisors. In order to be on the leadership team, you must be an active participant for at least one semester prior.
- Lead meetings
- Assist with communications with University Partners
- Event Planning
- Manage social media accounts
