Our Mission Statement: The Frederik Meijer Office of Fellowships, located within the Center for Student Research and Scholarly Engagement (CSRSE), provides support for undergraduates, graduate students, and GVSU alumni to pursue inter/nationally competitive fellowships in all majors or areas of study. Many awards we support warmly encourage applications from underrepresented students in higher education. We welcome alumni and work frequently with alumni applicants.
Our office is here to:
- Work with qualified students and alumni to identify awards best suited to their goals
- Help students develop an action plan for long-term goals (encouraging them to participate in study abroad, pursue second language acquisition, engage in sustained, effective volunteer service, take on leadership roles, engage in undergraduate research, and more)
- Help students identify high-impact fellowship and competitive internship opportunities that enhance workforce readiness
- Help fellowship applicants navigate the application process in order to produce the most competitive proposals possible
- Provide intensive advising and feedback on drafts of application essays

Kobe Wright '25 (Film and Video). Kobe received the Freeman-Asia Scholarship for study in Japan in Fall 2023. In the course of this semester, Kobe's self-confidence and cross-cultural communicative skills increased as he studied Japanese, immersed himself in his host culture, formed new friendships and found inspiration for his career as an artist. In 2025, Kobe received the JET fellowship to teach English in Japan! Congratulations to you, Kobe!
