Sibs & Kids: Greek Philanthropy Carnival

Join us for a day of fun-filled philanthropy at the Greek Philanthropy Carnival! Happening on Saturday, February 24th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Lower Level of Kirkhof Center, this carnival promises a fantastic time for all ages.

Carnival Games Galore: Step right up and test your skills at various exciting carnival games hosted by our Greek chapters! There's something for everyone.

Delicious Treats: Indulge in tasty snacks and treats to keep your energy up for all the fun activities.

Support a Cause: Your participation directly supports the philanthropic efforts of each Greek chapter. Every $1 ticket purchase goes towards their respective philanthropy, positively impacting our community.

  • Tickets: $1 each. Purchase as many tickets as you'd like to enjoy the carnival games and contribute to a great cause!

The GVSU Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) is currently home to five Greek Letter Organizations. They are: Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. (Asian Interest Sorority) Delta Tau Lambda Sorority, Inc. Phi Iota Alpha Fraterniyt, Inc. (Latino-based Fraternity) Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. (Latino-based Multicultural Fraternity) Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc.(Multicultural Sorority) The Multicultural Greek Council serves as the recognizing body for national and international culturally based Fraternities and Sororities from NIC, NALFO, NAPA, and NMGC. or another comparable governing board as determined by the MGC. The Council serves as the governing body of those organizations whose purpose is to promote leadership, community service, social activities, co-sponsor educational and cultural programs, and promote cultural awareness through various involvement in the Grand Valley and greater Grand Rapids communities.

On May 10, 1930, on the campus of Howard University, in Washington DC, the National Pan-Hellenic Council was formed as a permanent organization with the following charter members: Omega Psi Phi and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternities, and Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta and Zeta Phi Beta Sororities. In 1931, Alpha Phi Alpha and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternities joined the Council. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority joined in 1937 and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity completed the list of member organizations in 1997.

On February 4th, 1995, The Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council was officially chartered by the NPHC, becoming the first international council, outside of the United States of America to be chartered.

The stated purpose and mission of the organization in 1930 was Unanimity of thought and action as far as possible in the conduct of Greek letter collegiate fraternities and sororities, and to consider problems of mutual interest to its member organizations. Early in 1937, the organization was incorporated under the laws of the State of Illinois and became known as The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated.
