Allendale Campus
Faculty, Staff, Students

Streaks of pink, blue, and white are smudged in a soothing background. Large text reads "Body Binaries" with a subheading of "What ties sex and gender together" Cartoon blob people dance and run in the background.

Join us for a student-led and INT-approved discussion about sex and gender in our society!

Despite decades of research, our society still has a hard time separating sex and gender. You essentially can't have one without the other. Sexing offers an anatomical binary to describe and justify differences between men and women and doesn't leave room for other genders to exist. It also tells us that certain body parts, features, and experiences only belong to specific sexes. Gender is not anatomy, and bodies exist on a larger spectrum than our ideas allow for. Join us for a discussion exploring the influence of gender on our beliefs about sex.
