The Michigan Sociological Association along with GVSU is hosting this free public concert and discussion regarding gender-based violence experienced by indigenous women in the Americas. The featured discussants are University of Wisconsin Nursing Professor, Dr. Janeile Luebke and Michigan-based Anishinaabe Musician, Ruby John. The evening will begin with a musical performance as both an exercise in listening as well as a demonstration of how music can serve as advocacy. Dr. Luebke will discuss salient areas of her specific methodologies in conducting "indigenous' research. The aim of the evening is to promote a deeper understanding of indigenous violence while exploring ways to address challenges through prevention, advocacy, and community support. This evening is made possible, in part, with the Joseph Stevens Endowment. Please take a moment to learn about this honorable benefactor. https://www.gvsu.edu/stevens/
