Gulf States Foreign Policy

Over the past few decades, the foreign policies of the states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have undergone profound shifts, reflecting the interplay of regional upheavals, global shifts, domestic socio-economic transformations, coupled with unbridled ambition. Historically perceived as backwater oil rich monarchies, slowly but surely some GCC states have moved beyond such archaic descriptions and have emerged as assertive regional and international actors with a multifaceted and complex foreign policy tool kits. This talk will specifically delve into the impact of these shifts on Gulf states’ efforts at mediation, with a specific focus on Qatar.
