After a short summer romance, Danny, a confident, leather-jacket-wearing greaser, and Sandy, a sweet and wholesome new girl, seemingly part ways. To their surprise, this new school year brings them back together when Sandy starts school at Rydell High School as the new girl in town. This year proves to be challenging for them both, however, which puts a strain on their relationship. Sandy struggles to fit in with the tough and rebellious Pink Ladies, while Danny tries to maintain his cool image with his gang, the Burger Palace Boys. Though their feelings for each other are clear to see, misunderstandings and social expectations keep pulling them apart. Throughout this typical school year in the 1950's this group of teenagers navigates friendship, rivalry, young love, and self-identity through unforgettable songs and energetic dance numbers.
