First meeting Winter 2022

Welcome back H&H members! Our first meeting of the semester will be held virtually but we are hoping the rest of the monthly meetings will be held in person. During this meeting, we will be discussing our plans and hopes for the semester moving forward. We are rebranding our club a little bit and look forward to the opportunities we hope this restructuring will bring! Additionally, we will have a Google Calendar with volunteer opportunities for the month of February to share as well.

Hunger and Homelessness is a student-led service and advocacy volunteer organization at GVSU. We work with community agencies that, directly or indirectly, try to make a positive impact on our local communities.

Its our clubs mission to try and promote volunteering through our members by building a sense of community in the club and making volunteering as easy as it can be. Every month we will meet once to help educate ourselves on the local problems of our communities that we volunteer to help. To try and make Volunteering easy as possible, every month we update a club calendar that presents a wide array of volunteering opportunities with a description of the service needed, a time frame of how long and far away the service is and a step by step process on how to sign up.

These events take place at a large array of local agencies that target the population within the community. For example, thrift stores, shelters, health facilities, soup kitchens, food banks, and programs hosted by local churches. We have no dues and no minimum number of meetings or events that our members are required to attend. The Hunger and Homelessness Executive Board recognizes that our members have busy schedules, and we appreciate any amount of time a member is able to donate to our organization.

Additionally, promoting on-campus and community awareness of the lifestyles and experiences of this organization's target populations is also an important component of the purpose of this group. We believe that education is a key component to resolving the issues that hurt the people throughout our community and neighboring communities.
